Zambrano Hopes to Lead Independiente to Colombian League Final BOGOTA – Ecuadorian manager Octavio Zambrano is trying to lead Independiente Medellin to its first final of the year, but his club will have to beat defending champion Deportes Tolima this week in the first leg of the Colombian league semifinals to advance to the championship series.Independiente will try to win at Atanasio Girardot Stadium in Medellin, a city in northwestern Colombia, on Wednesday.Zambrano’s squad is aiming to beat Deportes Tolima just like it did Atletico Bucaramanga, which Independiente defeated 3-0 at home in the quarterfinals, allowing the club to advance to the semis despite a 2-0 loss in the second leg of the series.Independiente is unsure of the availability of forward Juan Fernando Caicedo, who missed the Bucaramanga match on Saturday due to a thigh injury.The medical staff will evaluate Caicedo on Tuesday to determine if he will be able to play on Wednesday.Independiente Medellin, however, will have Argentine German Cano, the top scorer in the tournament with 17 goals, and midfielder Andres Ricaurte, one of the top players in the Clausura tournament, on the field.Tolima, for its part, eliminated Independiente Santa Fe on penalties in the second leg of their series.Tolima will be without Venezuelan winger Luis “Cariaco” Gonzalez, who is playing with his national team and missed the two matches against Santa Fe.The last time Tolima and Independiente Medellin faced each other was on Sept.

Viñales Is Fastest in MotoGP Pre-Season 1st Test VALENCIA, Spain – Spanish rider Maverick Viñales (Yamaha) was the fastest in the first day of 2019 MotoGP pre-season training runs held at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo on Tuesday, in the Spanish town of Cheste.Viñales, who took pole position for the Valencia MotoGP on Saturday, came in first place, ahead of his countryman Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team), the 2018 World Champion, and Italian Valentino Rossi (Yamaha Factory Racing), who finished in second and third place respectively.“The first 2019 pre-season test has been completed and it was Maverick Viñales (Yamaha Factory Racing) who topped the times, setting the quickest time of 1:31.416,” according the MotoGP official website, adding: “rain brings proceedings to an early end.”The upcoming season’s tests saw changes in some teams, while other racers started their career as official racers, including Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo who changed to Repsol Honda Team, joining his fellow Spanish Marquez.Meanwhile, Spain’s Joan Mir (Suzuki Ecstar), Portugal’s Miguel Oliveira (Tech3 KTM), Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Pramac Ducati) and France’s Fabio Quartararo (SIC Yamaha) all made their MotoGP debuts at Ricardo Tormo.Furthermore, Danilo Petrucci of Italy started his career as one of Ducati’s official racers, having been a test rider for Ducati’s Superbike project during the last four campaigns.France’s Johann Zarco also started the 2019 season as a Red Bull KTM racer, joining Spaniard Pol Espargaro, while Italian Andrea Iannone rode for Aprilia.Tuesday’s training runs also saw the return of racer Tito Rabat of Spain, whose 2018 season ended when he suffered a triple leg fracture at the Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom on Aug.
