El secretario de Justicia Luis Sánchez Betances podría estar presentando la renuncia hoy cuando se espera regrese de Costa Rica, a donde partió el lunes en medio del escándalo de haber ido en ayuda de su “amigo del alma” y exsocio licenciado Jaime Sifre Rodríguez, después de que fuera arrestado mientras hablaba por un teléfono celular conduciendo ebrio un automóvil el viernes.
Diversas fuentes aseguran que Sánchez Betances, quien fue socio de Sifre Rodríguez, cuyo actual sociedad Sifre y Muñoz Noya tiene contratados por más de $700 mil con diversas agencias del gobierno, habría comunicado su decisión de dimitir a allegados.
Tras ser designado en diciembre pasado a ocupar la Secretaria de Justicia el licenciado Sánchez Betances creó un fideicomiso sobre sus intereses en la sociedad legal que mantenía con Sifre Rodríguez.
Mientras el asunto sigue creciendo como una bola de nieve pendiente abajo, EL VOCERO supo ayer que Sánchez Betances recibió la advertencia de que podía ser arrestado por obstruir la Justicia, cuando alegadamente trató de abogar por Sifre Rodríguez, que fue arrestado por el patrullero Gilberto Santiago Ortiz, de la Unidad de Impacto. La advertencia se la hizo el sargento Luis D. Rodríguez Hernández, según aparece en un informe redactado por el inspector Jimmy Ortiz, quien llegó a la División de Tránsito, en Hato Rey, tras conocerse que Sánchez Betances estaba allí, creando un ambiente tenso cuando los uniformados sintieron que estaban siendo presionados.
El inspector Ortiz, que era el oficial de mayor rango esa noche en el Área Policíaca de San Juan entrevistó a Sánchez Betances y al sargento Rodríguez Hernández, entre otros, para redactar el informe que el lunes le fue referido al superintendente James Tuller Cintrón y el cual llegó a La Fortaleza a pedido de la secretaria de la Gobernación Ingrid Vila Biaggi.
El informe narra que Sifre Rodríguez fue intervenido en la avenida Roosevelt y la salida al Expreso Las Américas cuando hablaba por un teléfono celular mientras conducía un Lexus modelo del 2013. Cuando el agente Santiago Ortiz realizaba la intervención llegó el secretario Sánchez Betances en su guagua oficial conducida por un agente del NIE.
El agente procedió a arrestar al prominente abogado, lo que supone que fue esposado y llevado hasta la División de Tránsito.
El inspector Ortiz señala que el sargento Rodríguez Hernández le narró que una vez el arrestado Sifre Rodríguez fue llevado a la División de Tránsito él se encontraba saliendo de la patrulla. La guagua del Secretario se detuvo detrás bloqueándolo. Sánchez Betances supuestamente salió de la guagua acompañado de dos hombres y una mujer.
Alegadamente Sánchez Betances interesaba llevarse el vehículo de Sifre Rodríguez.
El sargento, que había acudido a auxiliar al agente que por radio había pedido la presencia de su supervisor, alegadamente trató de evitar que el Secretario le hiciera algún acercamiento y le dijo que para hablar tenía que entrar al Cuartel, y que permitiera que el patrullero prosiguiera con su labor.
Fue entonces cuando surgió la supuesta advertencia de que no interviniera porque podría ser arrestado por obstruir la justicia. Se alega que Sánchez Batanes, en algún momento llegó a decir que era el Secretario de Justicia, y le pidió el nombre y la placa al sargento, para querellarse en su contra.
Rodríguez Hernández le dijo que entrara al Cuartel y que allí le daría su nombre y número de placa.
También trascendió ayer que una vez en el Cuartel el agente y el sargento pudieron haber recibido la presión de un oficial que llamó por teléfono con la aparente intención de evitar que Sifre Rodríguez fuera procesado.
La información del caso sigue saliendo a cuenta gotas, y en el informe del inspector Ortiz se menciona que Sánchez Betances le dijo que Sifre Rodríguez y otros amigos habían estado en un restaurante celebrando el cumpleaños de su hijo, que es abogado y trabaja en el bufete del intervenido.
En un careo ayer el inspector Jorge Hernández Peña, director del Negociado de Administración de Tránsito bajo el cual opera la unidad de Impacto, negó haberle dicho el domingo a EL VOCERO que la información de la intervención no se podía ofrecer porque esto era como antes mencionando el nombre de Michelle Franco, quien fue portavoz bajo la superintendencia de Héctor M. Pesquera, con un estilo de controlar el flujo de información. El domingo Hernández Peña refirió el pedido a José A. Rivera Adrovet, un oficial de Prensa y Comunicaciones de La Fortaleza que está destacado en la Policía, porque no estaba autorizado a ofrecer la misma.
Tras largas horas entrada la tarde Rivera Adrovet ofreció un escueto informe sobre la intervención que había ocurrido dos días antes.
En ese informe, supuestamente por erros, se menciona que el caso sería sometido hoy miércoles. Sin embargo, será el 18 de diciembre. La fiscal Elba Acevedo tras entrevistar ayer al patrullero Santiago Ortiz emitió la boleta. En el informe se señala que Sifre Rodríguez arrojó .215 centésimas de alcohol en la prueba de sangre.
El sargento que acudió ayer ante la fiscal no fue el que participó en la intervención. El superintendente Tuller Cintrón le dio un espaldarazo el lunes al agente que dijo había realizado bien su trabajo.

The Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi said Tuesday that Attorney Luis Sánchez Betances is unable to continue in office.
"For the past few days I have been watching the development of this unfortunate incident, but given the information that has transcended I feel obliged to express myself and show my rejection and censorship undue interference from the attorney. I understand that this intervention it unable to continue their charge effectively, "Pierluisi said in a written statement.
"I was attorney general and I fully understand the weight carried on his shoulders the person occupying that office. The people expect more from a Secretary of Justice, because his speech represents the government's ability to act impartially and in law enforcement and administration of justice for all citizens, regardless of their social or economic status or ties to officials government. If some information that has transpired over the conduct of the Attorney General to use his power to intervene with the police who had arrested his former partner to guide intoxicated, it is demonstrated that the officer does not have that ability and mine people's trust in their institutions, "he said.
"The situation is even worse if we take into account the leading role played by the secretary of the federal hiring monitor and related to police reform processes. This may not be the message to be sent to our Police. Officials called to administer justice can not intervene to prevent them apply the law correctly to your friends and relatives. And Caesar must not only be honest, you have to look it. Given this reality and in order to safeguard public confidence in its institutions I think the Secretary should consider whether it is better to leave office. Otherwise, the governor García Padilla is required to make the right decisions to safeguard the people's trust, "concluded Pierluisi.
The attorney, Luis Sánchez Betances accepted last Friday night went to headquarters Transit Division San Juan, after police arrested her former partner of law firm Jaime Sifre Rodriguez, 66 for driving intoxicated.
According to the police report, the lawyer was arrested at about 10:45 Friday night for driving while intoxicated and driving while talking on your cell phone by Roosevelt Avenue intersection with Highway PR-8 in San Juan.
