Washington - La alcaldesa de Washington D. C.,  Muriel Bowser, declaró el sábado 27 de octubre como el Día de Puerto Rico, coincidiendo con la celebración este fin de semana en su ciudad de una cumbre de grupos de la diáspora boricua.

"Los puertorriqueños residentes de Washington D.C. han ayudado a enriquecer la ya rica diversidad cultural de nuestra ciudad…han contribuido tremendamente a la economía de nuestra ciudad", indicó Bowser, en la proclama.

También acentúa que la conferencia de este fin de semana de grupos de la diáspora, con el apoyo del Centro de Estudios Puertorriqueños del Hunter College, tocará temas relacionados a los retos y oportunidades en la Isla.

"El Día de Puerto Rico otorga a la ciudad una oportunidad de promover la cultura y herencia de Puerto Rico y aumentar el acercamiento a la comunidad puertorriqueña alrededor de la ciudad", agrega la proclama.

La cumbre boricua tendrá lugar el viernes y sábado en la Universidad del Distrito de Columbia.
