Chris Columbus Will Direct ‘Home Front’
via Latino-Review.com by Philip Sticco on 3/30/12
Chris Columbus’ 1492 has purchased the film rights to Home Front. Written by Kristin Hannah, the novel tells the story of a woman who is a Blackhawk pilot in The National Guard, as well as a wife and mother. She gets called to serve a tour of duty in Iraq and we get to see the effects war has on a family from a different perspective.
“I was blown away by this book, I simply could not put it down,” Columbus said. “It told the story about the cost of war from a completely unique perspective: what happens when a wife and mother is called into action and how her family adjusts to life without her…and to a changed life upon her return. Home Front not only portrays the great sacrifices our military makes for us, but depicts so powerfully the hidden sacrifices their families make as well.”
Hannah has also sold the rights to another novel, The Things We Do for Love. It’s being eyed as a starring vehicle for Abigail Breslin.

The ‘White House Is Down’ With Sony
via Latino-Review.com by Philip Sticco on 3/30/12
Sony must love screenwriter James Vanderbilt. They hired him to write The Amazing Spider-man and it’s sequel and they’ve bought a spec script from him for $3 mil.
The movie is called White House Down and is described as a cross between Die Hard and Air Force One.
Wait, wasn’t Air Force One described as Die Hard on a plane? Does this make White House Down Die Hard in a house? Or has it been so diluted that Die Hard is now Air Force One combined with White House Down with a lime twist and a pack of Marlboros? We’re through the looking glass, people!
Vanderbilt is pretty busy lately, in addition to Spidey and White House he also wrote the Total Recall remake with Colin Farrell and did a polish of the script for the Robocop remake. Dude probably needs a nap right about now.

Zoe Kazan and Jake Johnson Join ‘The Pretty One’
via Latino-Review.com by Philip Sticco on 3/30/12
The Lucky One was one of the screenplays on the 2011 blacklist. It was also a finalist for the Nicholl Fellowship and Zoetrope screenplay contest. Now, it is going into production June 1st with Zoe Kazan and Jake Johnson in the lead roles. The writer, Jenee LaMarque, will also direct.
The synopsis from Deadline New York:
“[The Lucky One] is an offbeat comedy about an awkward but loveable young woman [Kazan] who is mistaken for her dead “perfect” identical twin, and seizes the chance to masquerade as her sister. But when she falls in love with her twin’s eccentric next door neighbor [Johnson], she finds herself wanting to live her own imperfect life, and have the truth come out.”
It sounds like a nice little indie film. Hopefully it’s successful so Hollywood can grab LeMarque and have her direct a superhero movie, or maybe Mirror, Mirror 2.
