Archbishop delivers Palm Sunday message concerning violence
NotiCel.com Archbishop Roberto González Nieves called on Puerto Ricans to reflect on the true meaning of Holy Week, during a Palm Sunday service following the traditional procession through the streets of Old San Juan.“Today Jesus wants to enter among us as king,” said the Archbishop. “Don’t make of this time only one of shopping, vacation and rest.”The archbishop said the message of Holy Week is particularly needed during a time of so many manifestations of violence among Puerto Ricans.“Puerto Rico and Puerto Ricans need to be illuminated by the Christian Easter. Who better than Jesus who suffered violence, intolerance and injustice, to understand this beautiful homeland in its pain...

A SOCIAL PACT FOR EDUCATION
To fully carry out its constitutional role of ensuring quality education, the state has to undertake a profound reform process, based on the principles of democratic education, direct the main emphasis and resources toward the student's needs and set transformative curriculum.

Minors at traffic lights
I agree with the letter entitled "Method and abuse?" 'The reader Benigno Ramos, published in The New Day on Thursday, March 29. In the letter Ramos expressed concern that many adults use minors in sales efforts, promotions and collecting money at traffic lights on streets and avenues.
Ramos pointed out how this approach has been increasing in the area of the Mall Plaza Escorial, the 65th Infantry Ave.
I wish to inform that the same is happening in Cupey, on Highway 199, better known as The Summit, specifically between Borinquen Gardens traffic lights and exit to the Las Americas Expressway. Every weekend we can observe a considerable number of children identified with different sports uniforms, soliciting money from drivers and risking their lives to move through traffic.
I wonder why the leaders of these teams do not select another type of fundraiser. A good idea would be to sell chocolates among family and friends, this type of product sells itself because I always like.
I also want to know how it is that parents give permission for their children are exposed to sun, rain and so many other risks, the truth, I can not explain.
Definitely, this form must be prohibited.

Smear campaign
"He who remains silent, gives" so much. I express myself on the latest developments at the Instituto Loaiza Cordero. My claim is on behalf of students and most of my fellow teachers and educators, we strive to serve our children well, we work to maintain an atmosphere of peace, harmony, security and respect.
In recent weeks has come to public light a completely wrong description of our school. That's not the school where I worked for 28 years. Is there, apparently, a teacher involved in a sexual abuse case? Yes, but the relevant authorities are working with the investigation. Does the past year there was a violent situation between two children with vision problems? Yes, but isolated cases accuse us unjustly.
We will not allow it. We are not abusers, let alone, our students are violent. Abuse, violence and abuse is a pattern in our school. Publicly condemn these expressions and ask you, please, stop the smear campaign that has taken as its north that want to destroy our school.

Is it more important to speeding and alcohol education? The answer to this question would be obvious to anyone that the intoxication of pride not blinded. But for a community of Caguas, it is not. It is a defense that has cost them to make a dozen parents and students who do not understand the reason for his refusal to a school that specializes in providing a harmonious environment, quality, according to educational standards, teaching what is respect, accountability and democratic consciousness.
Too bad it's the same community that discourages the energies and efforts made by parents and teachers for these youth. Have caused the bureaucratic permit process becomes a less fair and impartial insisting that the center can not operate because it disrupts the easy access to transit (being a two-lane street), would bring unnecessary noise (being a farm) and among other ignorance exposed, would bring crime to the community.
Do they think they are going to have a pub by urbanization? Would any school is late with people, noise, attracting crime, obstructing the path vehicular and selling drinks?
Apparently, there are many who prefer to sign for education with today's youth is in the "liquor stores", bakeries and shops, which do not have permissions problems in the area.

Pau Casals i Defilló (Catalan pronunciation: [ˈpaw kəˈzaɫs]) (December 29, 1876 – October 22, 1973), known during his professional career as Pablo Casals,[1][2][3] was a Spanish Catalan cellist and conductor. He is generally regarded as the pre-eminent cellist of the first half of the 20th century, and one of the greatest cellists of all time. He made many recordings throughout his career, of solo, chamber, and orchestral music, also as conductor, but he is perhaps best remembered for the recordings of the Bach Cello Suites he made from 1936 to 1939.
Biography
[edit] Childhood and early years
Casals was born in El Vendrell, Catalonia, Spain. His father, Carlos Casals i Ribes (1852–1908), was a parish organist and choirmaster. He gave Casals instruction in piano, song, violin, and organ. He was also a very strict disciplinarian. When Casals was young his father would pull the piano out from the wall and have him and his brother, Arturo, stand behind it and name the notes and the scales that his father was playing. At age four Casals could play the violin, piano and flute; at the age of six he played the violin well enough to perform a solo in public. His first encounter with a cello-like instrument was from witnessing a local traveling Catalan musician, who played a cello-strung broom handle. Upon request, his father built him a crude cello, using a gourd as a sound-box. When Casals was eleven, he first heard the real cello performed by a group of traveling musicians, and decided to dedicate himself to the instrument.[citation needed]
In 1888 his mother, Pilar Defilló de Casals, who was born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico of Catalonian ancestry, took him to Barcelona, where he enrolled in the Escola Municipal de Música.[4] There he studied cello, theory, and piano. In 1890, when he was 13, he discovered in a second-hand sheet music store in Barcelona a tattered copy of Bach's six cello suites. He spent the next 13 years practicing them every day before he would perform them in public for the first time.[5] Casals would later make his own personal version of the six suites.[6] He made prodigious progress as a cellist; on February 23, 1891 he gave a solo recital in Barcelona at the age of fourteen. He graduated from the Escola with honours five years later.
[edit] Youth and studies
In 1893, another Spanish composer Isaac Albéniz heard him playing in a trio in a café and gave him a letter of introduction to the private secretary to María Cristina, the Queen Regent. Casals was asked to play at informal concerts in the palace, and was granted a royal stipend to study composition at the Conservatorio de Música y Declamación in Madrid with Víctor Mirecki. He also played in the newly organized Quartet Society.
In 1895 he went to Paris, where, having lost his stipend from Catalonia, he earned a living by playing second cello in the theater orchestra of the Folies Marigny. In 1896, he returned to Catalonia and received an appointment to the faculty of the Escola Municipal de Música in Barcelona. He was also appointed principal cellist in the orchestra of Barcelona's opera house, the Liceu. In 1897 he appeared as soloist with the Madrid Symphony Orchestra, and was awarded the Order of Carlos III from the Queen.[citation needed]
