Washington, DC—The U.S. House of Representatives has approved H.R. 2216, the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2014, which allocates $5.6 million to make improvements to the Puerto Rico National Guard facilities at Camp Santiago in Salinas, Puerto Rico, announced Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi today.

Pierluisi Introduces the Puerto Rico Status Resolution Act

The introduction of HR 2000 sets forth the process for Puerto Rico to be admitted as a State of the Union. Territory status deprives 3.7 American citizens residing in Puerto Rico of the most fundamental democratic rights. This past November, the people of Puerto Rico withdrew their consent to second-class citizenship, and chose a future of dignity and democracy.
